My blog is moving.
Hi all.  I a moving my blog to the EBE, be sure to bookmark my new location at www.heatherwaterman.com.
Found this WhitePaper on Chris Johnsons Blog

New SharePoint WhitePaper -- SharePoint Products and Technologies customization policy

If you are a ITPro/Developer working with custom SharePoint solutions this whitepaper will interested you.  It talks about many techniques for modifying/customising your SharePoint environement/solution and talks about issues/suggestions around each.  It is also a great guide on what is supported and what isnt.

SharePoint Products and Technologies customization policy - if this download is unavailable, I have added a PDF on this site under Helpful Documents.

XSLT Data View - Backup Restore Problem
Found a problem when you create a custom XSLT Data View.  If you edit a list and you backup the site, and restore it the Data View comes back broken.

Have not found a workaround yet.
Adding an image to an XSLT Data View
Recently on a SharePoint WSS project we were working on, we did not want to use regular titles with our custom Data Views, instead we wanted to add an image banner.

To start, I removed the title entirely and then within SharePoint Designer (SPD) selected within the dataview web part, the common data view tasks, and selected Change Layout.  Under the General Tab selected Show/View Header.  SPD added a the space for the header and were able to drag and drop the image in place.

What this blog is about...
Some of you may know how to do the stuff listed in this blog, but when starting to work with WSS or SharePoint Designer, there is so much information out there that makes finding the simple How-To that you need very difficult and very time consuming.

What we will try to do is give you the basic information, that is to the point, yet simple enough that anyone starting out in WSS can do this.

Just the basics, keeping it simple, yet informative.

Thanks for reading...Heather Waterman
